OUR STORY
Hello! I'm Maricar Knize, known as Mrs. Knize to my students, mother of two, yoga and mindfulness student and teacher, LEGO fan, flower arranger and dog Mom. My mindfulness journey started when my son was four years old finding ways to help him with emotional regulation and sensory issues. Since 2015, I have been volunteering with Project Cornerstone, a SEL program at school. Seeing the various needs of students, I started incorporating mindfulness practices to settle their bodies down and provide a sense of safety to discuss topics such as bullying. During the pandemic, I started online mindfulness classes and continued with monthly in person classes at an elementary school. I have also been volunteering with Mindful Arts in San Francisco since 2018.
I earned my 200 and 300 hour yoga teacher certification in 2018. Recently graduated from the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification program from Sounds True with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield in January 2023. I also studied with Jennifer Prugh with JOY Meditation and Awareness Practices and learned other modalities incorporating journaling and art.
Here at Mindful Jar, we’re committed to educating youth about mindfulness to reduce stress and anxiety, improve emotional regulation, increase focus and attention through sensory awareness, movement and play.
